How do I access Chairsyde?

As a Dental Protection member you can sign up to Chairsyde using the below link and following the instructions: www.chairsyde.com/dentalprotection

Why is Dental Protection partnering with Chairsyde and offering this as a benefit to members?

Dental Protection believe Chairsyde are a fitting partner as we hold many of the same values. We are both dentist for dentist organisations, working to support dental colleagues in managing their risk of cases, claims and complaints, whilst fighting to reduce the cost of indemnity.

We believe that the benefits within the Chairsyde platform, including the visual aids to communicate information about diagnosis and treatment options, together with the consultation tracking software, will support members in protecting themselves in the event of a challenge and ultimately reduce the risk of being the subject of a complaint or a claim. Dental Protection will be monitoring data over time to test if this is true.

How much will Chairsyde cost me?

Chairsyde is available as part of the Dental Protection Xtra package at no additional charge to Dental Protection Xtra members.

Dentists and hygienists / therapists who work in a DP Xtra practice are also eligible for a Chairsyde license at no additional cost, as long as they remain Dental Protection members.

There are no limits to the number of licenses per practice.

Dental Protection members who are not part of a Dental Protection Xtra practice are entitled to a 20% discount off the Chairsyde RRP (£199.95 per month per practice, £49.95 per month for individuals. prices correct as of January 2021).

Will I have to pay any additional fees?

No, there are no additional fees.

How will I benefit from using Chairsyde?

With Chairsyde, dentists can:

  • offer remote, virtual consultations
  • use clear and powerful visual aids, to explain diagnosis and treatment plans
  • support a comprehensive consent process and robust record-keeping, through detailed, contemporaneous patient notes and tracking
  • allow patients to log in and view their treatment plan, replay animations linked to their consultation, or contact their dentist directly.

You can use Chairsyde remotely and during a face-to-face consultations.

It is an evolving platform, and continuously uses feedback from its users to improve and adapt to their needs.

In addition, you have access to a suite of benefits, including animations and in-development content, which are exclusive to Dental Protection members and will not be included for other customers.

Most importantly, we believe that the benefits within the Chairsyde platform may help to reduce the risk of complaints or claims.

How can Chairsyde reduce my risk?

Dental Protection believe using Chairsyde has the potential to reduce a dentist’s risk of being the subject of a claim, or complaint by:

  • Using tailored clinical images and videos to enhance communication with patients, helping them to understand their diagnosis and treatment options better than verbal communication alone.
  • Using the visual aids with patients in both the surgery setting and remotely, to help to support the information presented verbally and increase understanding by patients to support the consent process.
  • Chairsyde tracking the consultations – including time and date stamped records of visuals shown to a patient, and accompanying notes.
  • Chairsyde enabling dentists to email the consultation notes to patients and for them to revisit the visuals shown at the appointments. If a patient opens the email, reads the notes, or accesses the visuals again, this too is time and date stamped.
  • Chairsyde also providing patients with the ability to contact their dentist directly with any questions, ensuring the treating clinician is fully aware of any patient queries and in a position to address these promptly.

The Chairsyde visuals are designed as a supplementary aid to support your discussions with your patients – both within your practice and via remote consultations.

Chairsyde is intended to help improve communication with your patients and improve their understanding of specific problems, treatment options and risks.

Will I get training on how to use Chairsyde in my practice?

Once signed up to Chairsyde, you will have free access to training materials on how to get started, which will be provided by Chairsyde.

As a Dental Protection member, you also have access to a personalised training session with one of the Chairsyde team.

If you have any questions on how to make the most of Chairsyde in your practice, contact a member of the Chairsyde team at [email protected] and they will be happy to help.

Can licenses be shared?

No, a licence can only be used by the dental professional who completed the sign-up process. This is because each consultation is tracked using the Chairsyde system and cannot be amended without the system noting the change. Sharing a license would mean that another dental professional’s notes would be allocated and linked to the license holder.

If it is proven that a license has been shared, Chairsyde have the right to terminate the license.

If I choose not to use the Chairsyde benefit can I have a discount off my Dental Protection Xtra package?

No, as Chairsyde is included as a free benefit with the Dental Protection Xtra package, you will not receive a discount if you choose not to use the benefit.

When will the Chairsyde benefit end?

Our expectation is that Chairsyde will be a long-term benefit for Dental Protection members.

We will continue to monitor the data shared with us over the long-term to determine if there is any impact on members claims experience, and if any correlation can be made. Dental Protection maintain the right to withdraw the Chairsyde offer for members at any time if the benefits are deemed to no longer meet members’ needs.
