Support for dental professionals comes from many constituents – whether it is family, friends, colleagues or peers, or from organisations like Dental Protection or the British Dental Association.
In October 2020, Dental Protection announced a partnership with the new College of General Dentistry (CGDent) – the successor to the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK), based on their shared focus of supporting dentists in the areas of education, quality and standards. This exciting partnership brings together the two parties to work on new initiatives, alongside improving standards of dental care both nationally and internationally.
The first step in the partnership has been to offer full members, associate fellows and fellows of the College of General Dentistry a discount on their Dental Protection indemnity subscription. Full members and associate fellows are eligible for a 5% discount, and fellows can save 8% on their fees.
It has long been known that professional development, in its multitude of forms, not only demonstrates ambition and dedication for a dentist, but also lowers their indemnity risk as a professional. This special offer – known as the ‘CGDent Scheme’, now recognises and rewards those dentists who have undertaken postgraduate qualifications.
The career pathway currently being developed by the College of General Dentistry will also acknowledge and give credit for prior learning, skills and development, and provide a recognised road map for motivated individuals to move forwards in their career and meet their career aspirations. The aim of the College is to foster excellence and confidence in oral healthcare for all, through authoritative thought leadership, nurturing excellence in practice, and cultivating a passion for learning.
